Radford University offers students, faculty and staff an opportunity to purchase high quality Lenovo and Apple computers at very competitive prices. Each recommendation offered below is formulated to insure that your technology investment will serve your technology needs well into the future. The models and specifications below meet any department requirements. Note: If you intend to major in Interior Design, Fashion or Merchandising, please select the Lenovo ThinkPad W500 model.
Many software packages as well as the University’s computing support infrastructure are optimized to support mobile computing on these platforms from Lenovo and Apple. These computers all take advantage of the available wireless and classroom technologies offered at Radford University, and can run recommended University software. Additionally, the University recently completed a competitive bid process that offers the Radford University community the best possible pricing and support on these models. If you purchase any other computer models you may experience support, connectivity, or security issues that RU technical staff cannot assist you with.
Lenovo
As noted above, RU recommends four Lenovo ThinkPad notebooks (the base model T400, the better performing T400, the workstation class W500 for CAD and other graphic intensive applications, and the highly portable X200 tablet). Those who wish for higher performance and more longevity in a Windows-based notebook should choose the performance T400. Those seeking more portability as well as writing and other tablet functions should choose the X200 Tablet PC. Note: if you intend to major in Interior Design, Fashion or Merchandising, please select the Lenovo ThinkPad W500 model. The RU support staff is familiar with the hardware and software components and configurations of these specific computers and can provide a significantly higher level of support for these machines than for machines not recommended by the University. RU has also made arrangements for on-campus repair of these systems.
