Secure your Desktop
Leaving your computer logged in while you are away from your desk
leaves your account and email accessible to anyone who walks through
the door. When you are away from the office, always lock your computer
by using the CTRL-ALT-DEL combination of keys. Even if the office door
is locked, your computer should be locked as well.
Others need to use your computer?
Other people may need to use your computer, but never leave them logged
in under your username. Take the few extra minutes to log off, and
allow them to log in with their own username. If you need to walk away,
you can do so knowing your email and H: drive files, for example, are
safe.
A Help Desk technician needs to fix/rebuild/remove my computer
All university technicians should identify themselves when they arrive
to work on your computer. If you are in doubt as to whether someone is
a member of the Help Desk or other IT departments, contact the Help
Desk Manager or the IT main office at 831-5173. NEVER allow anyone to
remove computing equipment from your area unless you are sure they are
IT employees.
